One of the books I talked about today in Ms. Appleby's 4th grade class was a new mystery, Insignificant Events in the Life of a Cactus. The main character of this book is a confident middle school girl born without arms. Students remembered a video I showed in library a few years ago about an amazing young woman who was born without arms and asked me to show it again today. Some students asked me to show it a 2nd time, but we were out of time so I'm posting it so they can watch it with family at home. I've seen it many times. It's always inspiring and never gets old!
First graders started a unit today in Library class on Internet Safety and Digital Citizenship. Below are drawing of some of their favorite places online. Roblox, ABC Mouse, and Dreambox were the sites most mentioned as student favorites. We learned three principles of staying safe online: 1) Ask a parent before going online, 2) Only talk to people you know, and 3) Stick to sites that are just right for you.
I had some rewards credits at Capstone for 3 free books. I decided to run a report and see which non-fiction books had the highest check-out this school year. Above are most checked out non-fiction books this year (we do have more than one copy of all these books). Twelve of the twenty most checked out non-fiction books were Minecraft books. Wow. It was a no-brainer to get some more books for our video-loving students. Below are the books that will be arriving in our library next week.
During Library classes this week students listened to stories about inventors and scientists. We got excited about science by watching some pretty cool science experiments videos. Also students were shown the Science Fair resource page (on this website - RMCS Library page) where they can access a list of science experiment books, as well as websites and youtube channels with ideas for science fair projects and experiments.
Mr. Knepp's class heard book talks on Graphic Novels before break. Graphic Novels are some of our most popular books in the library. Below are our most popular GN and Comic Book series' this year.
